Diodes introduces the AL3050 current mode step-up LED driver to provide programmable brightness for LED backlighting in portable devices. With advanced dimming features, small size, low BOM cost and high efficiency, this product is ideal for single-cell Li-Ion battery devices with small LCD panels, such as multifunction/smart phones, portable media players, GPS Receivers and other ultra mobile devices.
By integrating a 30V 0.6Ω MOSFET and a power Schottky diode, the AL3050 can drive up to eight LEDs in series and can connect multiple LED strings in parallel. The device features a normal PWM dimming mode with a deep dimming ratio of 100:1 and a single-line digital dimming mode with 32-step programmable brightness adjustment. The boost converter operates at a fixed switching frequency of 750kHz to reduce output ripple and improve conversion efficiency, and allows the use of small external components.
The AL3050 features robust LED short-circuit and LED open-circuit protection with system start-up current limiting and standard overcurrent, overvoltage and overtemperature protection to ensure reliable system performance.
