Top Ten Consumer Trends in 2017: AI and VR/AR Become Popular

Let's take a look at the future. Ericsson Consumer Labs released its sixth edition of the annual trend report – the top 10 consumer trends in 2017 and beyond. AI is an important theme this year, and consumers see it playing a more prominent role in society and work than before. In fact, 35% of deep Internet users want an AI consultant to assist in work, and a quarter of people want an AI as their housekeeper.

The following are the top 10 trends in the VR AI field in 2017 and beyond:

1. AI is everywhere: 35% of advanced Internet users want an AI consultant to work, and a quarter of people like AI as their housekeeper. At the same time, almost half of people worry that AI robots will quickly make many people lose their jobs.

2. Gradually Deploying the Internet of Things: Consumers are increasingly using automated applications to encourage the adoption of the Internet of Things. 40% believe that smartphones will automatically learn their habits.

3. Driverless: There may be no car drivers in the future. If all cars are unmanned, one in four pedestrians will feel safer across the street, and 65% prefer to own autonomous cars.

4. Mixed reality: Almost 80% of VR users believe that VR will be indistinguishable from reality within three years. Half of the respondents are already interested in gloves or shoes, and think that these tools can realize your dream of interacting with virtual items.

5. The body is not synchronized: As automated cars become a reality, car disease problems will increase, and three out of ten need treatment. One-third of the people even hope that through the development of VR and AR technology, these diseases can be cured by exercising in the virtual world.

6. The paradox of smart device security: More than half have used emergency alerts, tracking or notifications on their smartphones. Three-thirds of those who say their smartphones make them feel safe say they take on more risks.

7. Social islands: Today, people are willing to turn their social networks into islands. One-third of people say that social networking is their main source of news. And more than a quarter of people value their acquaintances in the network more than politicians.

8. Individual Augmented Reality: More than half of people want to use augmented reality glasses to illuminate the dark environment and discover potential dangers. More than a third of people like to create a disturbing atmosphere around them.

9. Privacy segmentation: 40% of high-end Internet users only want to use encryption services. Almost half expect all services to have reasonably protected privacy, and more than one-third believe that privacy no longer exists.

10. Serving the Big Man of All Mankind: More than 40% of advanced Internet users want to get all the products they need from the top five IT companies. Among them, three-quarters think that this will only happen in five years.
