Ronda said that because the global demand for LED-backlit TV panels is growing at 30-50%, the penetration rate of LED backlights is expected to rise from 40-50% in 2011 to 60% in 2012. However, as the backlight technology continues to increase, the number of LED chips used is reduced, and the corresponding LED chip demand may be reduced. As a result, Ronda’s revenue from LED backlight applications in 2012 will be the same as in 2011.
The Ronda Suzhou plant has started to introduce MOCVD machine equipment in September this year. It is expected to start trial production in October and start shipping in November. At the beginning, the lighting application products will be the main ones. The number of MOCVD machines installed in the first stage to 2012 should not exceed 20 units.
