Power Integrations, a manufacturer of LED driver ICs, has released a new reference design (DER-297), a high-efficiency, ultra-compact driver for B10 LED bulbs. The power supply is based on Power Integrations' LinkSwitch-PL family of non-isolated single-stage LED driver ICs, making it ideal for high voltage LED applications.
The DER-297 provides the high voltage output required by the LED and improves overall system efficiency by reducing the power dissipation caused by the drive inductance and current in the output diode.
The DER-297 power supply design uses only 20 components in total, which is small and cost-effective. The LinkSwitch-PL device is highly integrated, integrating PFC and constant current in a single-stage buck-boost circuit. For a 4.3 W LED driver, the design achieves 87% efficiency at 115 VAC (up to 86% for 2.9 W output efficiency) and a power factor of over 0.9, which easily meets EN61000-3-2 Class C limits Requires and reduces total harmonic distortion (THD) below 20%.
