Bridgelux layoffs 1/5 center of gravity to transfer to silicon substrate LED

[High-tech LED] US LED chip maker Bridgelux said it decided to shift its focus from sapphire substrate LED manufacturing to lower-cost silicon substrate LED manufacturing, so it plans to lay off Livermore headquarters. A total of 53 of the 250 employees, about one-fifth.

According to Bridgelux, the company is gradually reducing LED manufacturing on sapphire substrates, and the shift in production methods will reduce the company's production costs by 75%.

In 2010, Bridgelux achieved $35 million in operating income. The company's 2011 revenue target is $80 million. Bridgelux expects to put silicon substrate LEDs into mass production within 18 months. He is currently negotiating with an Asian company to form a joint venture to engage in the overseas manufacturing of a new generation of LEDs.
