Research says LED backlight application demand will peak in 2013

April 17 news, according to foreign media reports, market research organization DisplaySearch analysis predicts that the demand for LED backlight applications will reach a peak in 2013, and will gradually decrease. Mainly because the LED brightness is increased due to the improvement of technology, the number of uses will be reduced. For example, the sidelight design in the backlight module gradually changes from the long side to the short side to the light. As for LED lighting applications, it will continue to grow strongly.
According to DisplaySearch, the demand for lighting LEDs in 2010 was about 11.08 billion, and the demand for backlights was about 37.77 billion. It is estimated that the demand for lighting and backlight LEDs will increase to 13.77 billion and 48.66 billion in 2011, respectively. In 2012, it will increase to 21.27 billion and 55.06 billion respectively. In 2013, it will increase to 36.87 billion and 55.2 billion respectively. By 2014, LED lighting and backlight LED demand will reach 60.44 billion and 54.2 billion, respectively.
In terms of lighting, DisplaySearch said that Japan is an early introduction of LED lighting, but it is expected that Japan's share of global LED lighting demand will gradually decrease. This is because the demand for LED lighting in other countries will gradually increase.
Although after the earthquake in Japan, the market expects that Japan's post-disaster reconstruction will drive demand for energy-saving lighting, but LED lighting is not immediately necessary (it is expected to start from the infrastructure), so it may instead develop LED lighting in Japan. The time course is postponed.
As for the LED supply and demand structure, although the LED supply was in short supply in early 2010, the new capacity of the LED factory gradually opened in the third quarter and the fourth quarter of 2010. In 2010, the world's largest LED supply source is South Korea, the second largest is Taiwan, but it is estimated that Taiwan will be the world's largest LED supply source in 2011, South Korea relegated to second place. In the first quarter of 2011, the world's top three LED chip suppliers were Samsung's S-LED, LGIT, and Epistar. In total, Taiwanese and Korean manufacturers accounted for more than 70% of the global LED die supply.
