Cicret Bracelet smart bracelet: Is the skin a touch screen?

We are eager to have more cool wearables in our hearts.

Is wearables just a short-lived boom? Or are they building up forces to prepare for a bigger wave? If technology companies insist on innovation and find new ways to put technology on the human body, then the answer is probably the latter. From the Google Glass because the price is too expensive and the shape is too clumsy and unpopular, it seems that to win in the battle of wearables, you must occupy the "strategic place" of the wrist.

On October 30, 2014, a French company called "Cicret" published a video on YouTube, which suddenly exploded, with a pageview of 6.2 million and growing. What exactly is this video about?

It seems to be about a smart bracelet called "Cicret Bracelet": an orange, waterproof wearable device that can project the interface image of the smartphone onto the skin of the wrist, making the skin a touch screen and allowing touch screen operation on the skin. Turn the touch screen experience into a "touch skin" experience.

But how much of the content of that video is real? You can take a look at it yourself and then get more details from our conversation with Cicre's co-founder Guillaume Pommier.

AW: Your product, Cicret Bracelet, has been very hot recently. Can you please tell us how Cicret was founded, and its history and current situation?

GP: At the beginning, the company only had me and my father. I am only 25 years old, my relationship with my father is very close, we spend most of our free time building applications together, or writing books and so on. Although we have been developing Cicle Bracelet for more than a year, we started developing the Cicre app a few years ago.

Although we have long known that the Cicre app and Cicle Bracelet will definitely be popular, everything that happens now is like a dream, so we have to stay calm. Today, I received 5,000 emails from fans of Cicret Bracelet, but unfortunately I didn't have enough time to respond in one day.

There are many investors who are interested in our products. We are working with local component manufacturers in France to continue our efforts to build our product model.

AW: How does the projected interface make a touchscreen response?

GP: When the user's finger interacts with a remote distance sensor, a direct laser intercepts the user's finger and captures the user's finger motion, which is then sent to the phone. The remote distance sensor works just like a smartphone, and it recognizes objects in the focus range. This technology combines a pico projector.

AW: Are you afraid of being a competitor to Google Glass?

GP: We are not afraid. On the contrary, we feel very honored to compete with Google. We are still a small company.

AW: What type of investment do you have now? How big is the investment amount?

GP: We have distributors all over the world, including the US and Belgium. I don't know how many emails I received last Monday, but about 1,500 said: "I want to invest in your products." In addition, some big companies want to meet with us in Paris and want to see if the product model is normal. jobs. There are also other big companies asking: "How can we partner?" Developed software for Cicre Bracelet. Although we are a small team, we are developing very fast, and we are fortunate to use video to let more people see our products.

AW: How long is Cicret Bracelet's battery life expected?

GP: It depends on how many functions the user uses. If the user doesn't always overload the Cicre Bracelet, I estimate the battery life is about 24 hours.

AW: Does the user's finger distort the image projected on the wrist?

GP: We are using a variety of methods to ensure that this pico projector is not disturbed by the user's fingers, such as placing the projector very close to the skin and placing a close-range laser on top of the projector. I know that this is not a big problem for the engineering department.

AW: Do you charge a monthly service fee or an additional fee?

GP: No, we are not that kind of company.

AW: Is Cicre Bracelet open source?

GP: Yes, we plan to turn it into an open source product that allows interested developers to develop their own applications.

AW: How will Cicret's future path go?

GP: We have a bolder idea that is even more incredible than Cicre Bracelet. But now we will devote ourselves to Cicre Bracelet. We have already thought about how to go next.

AW: Do you have anything to say to millions of people who are interested in your creation – are your fans?

I feel like I haven't slept for a month.

GP: If you have an idea, you need to implement it. Life is short, and I want to do it. As long as you do, people can't smash you. If your idea is realized, it is what you deserve. This is my belief.

This waterproof bracelet has not yet been officially put into production, and the product model is being improved, but their company plans to release the final product globally in 2015, at a price of 300 euros ($365, 234 pounds, 450 Australian dollars) to 400 euros. Between $487, £313, and $600, Pommier sees a huge global demand for this smart bracelet.

The price of this wearable device is far cheaper than Google Glass, because Pommier said: "I hope everyone can afford this bracelet." He also mentioned that their team has cooperated with component manufacturers, hoping to pass Reduce the cost of components to make this product more affordable.

Cicret Bracelet seems to be a whimsical idea, and it's hard to believe that it will really be released as planned next year. Perhaps this bracelet will only become another meteor that has fallen through the sky of technology history, or it may have a major impact on the future of wearable technology. In any case, it has provoked our interest, let us wait and see what the final product of this wearable device will look like.

AW: In French, how does "Cicret" read?

GP: The pronunciation is like the English "secret".

AW: Is your video showing a real product model or simulation?

GP: This is a demo video about how Cicret Bracelet will work. In the video demo, we are not showing all the components of the product model. Now, exactly last week, we learned that the product model we built next year is 90% similar to the model in the video. The component company we worked with said that making this bracelet is achievable, but it may be twice as large as the bracelet in the video, the size of a watch.
