Linear Technology introduces the LT3595, a 45V, 2MHz, DC/DC buck mode converter, which is used as a 16-channel constant current LED driver. Each channel of the LT3595 can drive up to 10 50mA LEDs in series, driving up to 160 50mA LEDs in total and achieving efficiencies as high as 92%. The multi-channel capability of the LT3595 makes it ideal for large TFT-LCD backlighting applications. Each of the 16 channels is self-contained and can be dimmed with a dimming ratio of up to 5000:1. The 2MHz fixed frequency, current mode architecture provides stable operation over a wide range of input and output voltages while minimizing external component size. Power switches, Schottky diodes, and compensation components are all internal to form a very small footprint solution while minimizing component cost. Its thermally enhanced 5mm x 9mm QFN package ensures a very compact solution footprint and drives LEDs up to 30W.
The LT3595 features a 100mA, 45V internal switch. An external resistor sets the LED current for all 16 channels, and the dimming of each channel is controlled by a separate PWM pin. The relative current match between the 16 drivers is 8%, ensuring consistent LED brightness. The LT3595 also enables the LED to be disconnected during shutdown and enables LED open and thermal protection.
