Freescale QorIQ Qonverge series of multiple wireless base station integrated design solutions

QorIQ Qonverge series

Freescale Semiconductor, a leading communications processor manufacturer, launched the highly integrated QorIQ Qonverge series of multi-core heterogeneous base station products with scalable capabilities, providing scalable processors based on the same architecture to meet the multi-standard needs from small cells to large cells . The architecture covers small to large cellular base stations, and the platform enables OEMs to reuse software regardless of the size of the cell. Customers can use common hardware, software architecture and tools to minimize capital expenditures and benefit from comprehensive solutions that accelerate time to market.

QorIQ Qonverge integrates communication processing, digital signal processing, and wireless acceleration technologies into a single system-on-a-chip, and provides a variety of configurations for the optimization of next-generation femtocell, picocell, metrocell, and macrocell base stations. It achieves excellent integration through the use of advanced processing technology, and many functions previously performed on separate FPGAs, ASICs, DSPs, and processors are now combined into a single device. Use a common architecture for cells of different sizes from femto (home base station) cells to macro (macro) cells, optimize R & D investment and software reuse, and quickly provide prototype design and different base station design reference solutions to enable base station manufacturers to use one development The platform designs many different types of base stations, and can significantly improve performance, power, and cost on a single, flexible architecture, and enhance the applicability of different base station platforms.

The QorIQ Qonverge processor integrates one or more Power Architecture cores, high-performance programmable StarCore DSP, MAPLE multi-mode baseband accelerator, message processing acceleration engine, interconnect structure and next node processing technology. The new QorIQ Qonverge SoC uses the StarCore SC3850 DSP and Power Architecture e500 MPU core. It delegates L2 and above processing to the MPU core instead of the DSP core to significantly improve efficiency. The products in this portfolio support multiple standard multimode base stations including GSM, LTE-FDD & TDD, LTE-Advanced, HSPA +, TD-SCDMA and WiMAX. This high-integration and high-performance solution can bring considerable improvements in cost and power consumption to base stations of different architectures. Alcatel-Lucent ’s ultra-small mobile transmission expansion product LightRadio launched last year is based on Freescale ’s QorIQ Qonverge advanced technology.

Small cell base station products

The small cell base station is a new technology emerging in the 3G era, and is also the first product launched by the QorIQ Qonverge series. The small cell on-chip base station processor has been very popular since its launch last year. More than 50% of the cellular base station market.

The BSC9130 / 31 femtocell SoC (which can simultaneously support 8 to 16 users) is one of the first QorIQ Qonverge processor products available in the market. The processor supports a range of air interfaces including LTE (FDD / TDD), WCDMA (UMTS, HSPA +), WiMAX and CDMA. The device also uses seamless RFIC communication and antenna interface, without the need for additional chips (such as FPGA), thereby saving board space and reducing costs. The ultra-integrated BSC913x series can also support GPS synchronization and 2G / WCDMA / LTE interception in a single device.
