Liang Sicheng (1901 ~ 1972)
Mr. Liang Sicheng is a native of Guangdong Province. He was born in Tokyo, Japan on April 20, 1901, and graduated from Tsinghua University in 1923. From 1924 to 1927, he studied at the Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his bachelor's degree in February 1927 and his master's degree in June of that year. From July 1927 to February 1928, he studied the history of world architecture at Harvard University Research Institute. In March 1928, he married Lin Huiyin in Vancouver, Canada. After returning to China in August 1928, he founded the Department of Architecture of Northeastern University and served as the head of the department until June 1931. In 1930, he joined the Society of Construction, and from 1931 to 1945 he was appointed as the director of the French Department of China Construction Society.
From 1932 to 1933, he taught architectural history at Peking University. From 1933 to 1946, he was a communications researcher at the Institute of History and Languages ​​of the Academia Sinica and concurrently a researcher. Since 1934, he has been a member of the Chinese Antiquities Preservation Committee. From 1945 to 1946, he served as deputy director of the Chinese Theater Cultural Relics Maintenance Committee. In 1946, he founded the Department of Architecture of Tsinghua University and served as professor and department head.
