CSR launches SiRFstarV 5e GNSS positioning solution

CSR has announced the launch of SiRFstarV â„¢ 5e, an optimized Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) engine that enables high-precision positioning of mobile phones, cameras, and healthcare equipment. It can simultaneously support GLONASS, GPS, QZSS and SBAS, so it can ensure the highest positioning accuracy and the fastest time to first positioning (TTFF).

The Jupiter SE868-V2 module was first released by Telit Corporation at the 2013 American Wireless Communications Exhibition in Las Vegas, with a size of 11x11 square millimeters. This receiver module in QFN package integrates 5e, TCXO, SAW and RTC oscillators in a small and light package, which can speed up time to market and reduce product development risk. -InstantFixTM Extended Ephemeris (EE)-Let devices without wireless connection (such as cameras, etc.) solve the problem of slow initial positioning. 5e can predict EE automatically 3 days in advance locally, and for networked devices, it can also support server-based EE, with GPS for 31 days and GLONASS for 14 days.

-Direct battery connection-The GNSS chipset can be directly connected to a lithium battery for power supply, thereby reducing system cost and improving power efficiency. By integrating a power management unit (PMU), system-level power consumption and eBOM costs can be reduced.

-Flexible design, which can optimize the cost of the solution-the design of 5e is very focused on the implementation of the solution to reduce the size and power consumption. For example, UART and SPI flash drive levels are 1.8-3.3v, so no level shifters are required and implementation flexibility can be improved.

-Intelligent design-5e's design is optimized for low-power battery-powered equipment. For example, in asset tracking applications, the 5e engine can intelligently determine the time to try to acquire satellite signals according to the surrounding environment, thereby greatly saving battery power.
