(Nasdaq: MENT) today announced that Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd., a major Japanese auto parts manufacturer, and its consolidated subsidiaries (AISIN) will be based on the Mentor® Graphics VolcanoTM VSxTM design tool to support the widespread adoption of the AUTOSAR-based design process across the entire automotive manufacturer network.
As a global standard for electronic control unit (ECU) design, AUTOSAR (Automotive Open System Architecture) is an open, standardized automotive software architecture jointly developed by automotive OEMs, suppliers and tool developers. And AISIN's announcement of the implementation of AUTOSAR will help unify the manufacturer's software development infrastructure across the entire automotive systems sector and facilities. By adopting a standardized interface, this architecture can help automotive engineers and suppliers of ECUs realize the modularity and scalability of software, thereby improving the ability to handle more complex designs. In addition, AUTOSAR supports design reuse and transferability of ECU design resources.
The use of AUTOSAR allows AISIN to focus on developing their core business, developing high-quality, high-reliability ECUs for a variety of in-vehicle functions. One of the key safety design areas is powertrain applications.
